Today hasn’t been a good day today. I spent most of the morning in bed suffering with a really bad headache which meant that I didn’t have the strength to make it to the morning meeting at my church.
A couple of hours I felt a bit better and decided to go to the afternoon meeting. When I got to church I had people asking why I was there if I wasn’t well. I told them that I felt that I needed to come as I hadn’t been out the house for two days and I was starting to get a cabin fever.
Just before the meeting started I to feel a bit peaky again and was starting to think what am I doing here, I should have stayed at home.
During the meeting two of the songs that were used had the word strength in them. The songs were Everlasting God and In Christ Alone. As I was singing these songs I felt like that God was renewing my strength that I had lost these past couple of days. I then prayed that God will give me the strength that I need to carry on through the week.
Everlasting God
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint You won't grow weary
You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint You won't grow weary
You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
When I got home from the meeting I looked through my bible to see if there were any verses about strength and I came across Isaiah 40 vs. 26-31
Look into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.
O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Even the strongest people get tired at times, but God’s power and strength never diminish. He is never too busy to help and listen. His strength is our source of strength. When you feel all life crushing you and you can’t go another step, remember that you can ask God to renew your strength.
Lord, I draw my strength from you today. Help me to keep my eyes on you and see the difficult places turned into pools of blessings. Amen
Take care xx
