I was quite successful with yesterdays challenge. As I had a free night last night I managed to find the time I needed to sit down and read my chapters of the bible for the day. The chapters that I read were Genesis chapter 16 vs. 1- chapter 18 vs. 19, Psalms 7 vs. 1-17, Proverbs 2 vs. 1-5 and Matthew chapter 6 vs. 1-24. I’d like to share the verses that stood out to me.
Proverbs 2 vs. 2, 6-11
Tune yours ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding
For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
Then you will understand what is right, just and fair and you will find the right way to go.
For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will fill you with joy.
Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.
Wisdom isn’t developed all at once. It comes through a constant process of growth. Some aspects of wisdom might seem to develop faster than others. For example, some people seem to have more insight than discretion; others have more knowledge than common sense. But the source of wisdom is still God.
Matthew chapter 6 vs. 5-13
When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites that who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth that is all the reward they ever get.
But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you and pray to your father in private. Then your father, who sees everything will reward.
When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.
Don’t be like them, for your father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
I used the final 3 verses as my prayer.
Our father in heaven,
May your name be kept holy.
May your kingdom come soon
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
